The Children & Young People Now Show 2009 will consist of three major elements:

Designed to provide essential guidance for visitors, there are five workshop streams based on key elements of The Children's Plan:

Children's Centres and Extended Schools

With the 2010 deadline for building and developing a children's centre and extended school in every community fast approaching, local authorities and their partners are turning their attention to ensuring the long-term sustainability of their settings and services. Featured workshops include:

  • How cool are you? How to ensure your extended services appeal to teenagers
  • A partnership of equals: Building strong and solid links between children's centres, extended schools and communities
  • Do you have enough? How do children's centres and extended schools guarantee there's enough local childcare for parents and children?
  • Early Years foundation stage: A children's centre success story
  • Take up the challenge: What works in supporting parents to take up formal childcare

Health & Wellbeing

The government's child health strategy will up the ante on practitioners to work effectively together to improve the health of all children, right through from birth to the onset of adulthood. Featured workshops include:

  • Mental health: A meeting of minds
  • Preventing drug and alcohol misuse

Leadership & Collaboration

In order to help make England the best place in the world for children and young people to grow up in, the Government wants every part of the workforce to have strong professional leadership, which is committed to excellence. Featured workshops include:

Play

With the national play strategy promising to improve up to 3500 play areas and create 30 new adventure playgrounds, local authorities are grappling with how to ensure these areas are fun, safe and properly resourced. Featured workshops include:

More than 100 delegates are expected at this high-level, strategic one-day conference that focuses on developments in the world of children and young people's services.
